Last we heard, a trade was almost imminent, even if the Leafs were hesitant on making it happen. However, in the past few days, a lot changed. Overall, it became clear that Robertson and the Leafs wanted to make it work. After all, the Maple Leafs need depth and Robertson provides that. At 22 years old, he has a ton of upside, and there was no reason to just let him walk.
Well, this morning, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reported that the Leafs and Robertson agreed to a one-year deal. It is worth $875,000. Not a bad amount to play professional hockey as your job.
In 87 NHL games, Robertson has 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 points. In the AHL last season, he played only nine games but had 11 points. Much of his time was spent with the Maple Leafs, where he had 27 points in 56 games. He can certainly grow into a solid contributor and fans will be excited to have him back on the roster.
