By now, everyone knows about the massive hit Patrik Laine took at the hands of Toronto Maple Leafs player Cedric Pare.

Overall, the Montreal Canadiens forward was down on the ice for quite some time, and many believe his injury could be serious. There are some reports that he may have even torn his ACL. Having said that, fans are very concerned about Laine. There has been an outpouring of support, and for now, it seems like things remain up in the air. However, a diagnosis is expected to come soon.
Yesterday, fans were awaiting a verdict on the hit and any potential punishment. Arber Xhekaj got fined for the way he beat up on Pare. As a result, some fans figured there would be some sort of punishment for the knee-on-knee collision. However, those fans were sorely disappointed.
As Hockey Patrol pointed out, the 5 PM deadline passed without a word from the NHL. Hence, it is pretty well guaranteed that there will be no supplemental discipline.
For Habs fans, this is certainly not a great decision. However, the league typically doesn't punish knee-on-knee hits, especially when it is the preseason and a first-time offender is involved. Xhekaj was able to secure justice and for many, that is going to be enough.
Do you believe that Pare deserved to be suspended or punished? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite players and teams.
