Montreal reporter accuses Toronto Maple Leafs of retaliation
Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher of the Montreal Canadiens were injured last night in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Laine went down due to a hit from Cedric Pare. Meanwhile, Reinbacher was leveled by Marshall Rifai. Habs fans are understandably upset about what went down. However, BPM Sports reporter Anthony Marcotte seems to have an explanation for what was happening.
He believes that Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has given the team a new mentality. In fact, after Michael Pezzetta injured John Tavares, Marcotte believes Berube gave his team the green light to hit everything that moves. Subsequently, the Leafs listened and inflicted a lot of pain. Although, this appears to be more of a theory than anything else.
"The Leafs' order was clear: hit everything that moved. From the first shift, Marshall Rifai had only one intention and that was to hit David Reinbacher solidly.
Remember Thursday's game and Pezzetta's check on Tavares? The Leafs wanted to get back at the Canadiens, this time by not exposing their best players.
The mentality will change with Craig Berube behind the bench, I have a feeling."
Now, fans are waiting with bated breath to see what kind of injury Laine might have. If he has a torn ACL, which is very possible, then he will be out for the entire season. Needless to say, this has been a disastrous preseason for the Canadiens so far.
