Auston Matthews responds after viral verbal altercation with Craig Berube

Perhaps his worst game of the season came last night as the Leafs lost to the St. Louis Blues in pretty embarrassing fashion. The final score was 5-1 and there was one instance during the game in which Matthews found himself with a pretty awful missed assignment that led to a goal.

Subsequently, Matthews was reamed by his head coach Craig Berube and the whole thing went viral. Today, he told reporters that it was no big deal and that in hockey, these things happen.

Berube also spoke on the sequence, noting that he has always preached accountability with his players. He never wants his guys to get complacent, and that certainly shined through over here.

Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs are able to get out of their current funk. At this stage, fans are starting to get a bit impatient. However, it is important to stay grounded during bad stretches of hockey. Otherwise, you can fall into some serious traps.
