Pittsburgh Penguins Lose Major Trade Asset Due To Injury Against The Panthers
It was a tough night for the Pittsburgh Penguins, not only did they lose to the Florida Panthers in regulation, but they also suffered a blow to their lineup with one of their key forwards going down with an injury amid swirling trade rumors.
Jake Guentzel, a pivotal player for the Penguins, didn't see any ice time in the latter part of the third period, prompting concerns about his health. Head coach Mike Sullivan later confirmed that Guentzel is undergoing evaluation for an upper-body injury.
"He is being evaluated right now for an upper-body injury," Sullivan revealed.
As a pending free agent, Guentzel's future with the Penguins has been the subject of intense speculation. Reports suggest that he has turned down a long-term contract extension, fueling rumors of a potential trade as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches on March 8.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Guentzel has been a consistent contributor on the ice this season, tallying 22 goals and 29 assists in 49 games played.
