When the Philadelphia Flyers and general manager, Daniel Briere, got wind of veteran goaltender Carter Hart's involvement in the Hockey Canada scandal, it threw the team's plans into disarray. Hart was seen as the goalie of the present and future for the Flyers, so his suspension was a major setback.

As the season wrapped up, the Flyers decided to bring in 27-year-old goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov from the KHL. Fedotov had made headlines for his involvement in a military credential scandal, which landed him in the Arctic circle as punishment. Despite having an NHL contract, he had to honor his KHL deal.

After just three NHL games, the Flyers are putting their faith in Fedotov. Today, it was revealed that he signed a hefty 2-year deal worth nearly $7 million.

Ivan Fedotov agrees to 2 year extension with the @NHLFlyers. $3.25 mil AAV.

This move by the Flyers is a gamble. With Fedotov's limited experience and game time, it's a risky bet. In his brief stint this season, Fedotov posted a .811 save percentage and a 4.95 goals-against average.

It's a bold move by the franchise, one that could pay off big or backfire spectacularly.
