Ryan Johansen takes action against the Philadelphia Flyers
Earlier today, Ryan Johansen was placed on unconditional waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers in an attempt to terminate his contract.
The team accused Johansen of breach of contract. There are reports that Johansen allegedly kept his injury status from the team and that his career is likely over. Of course, this has led to some strife, and the Flyers are not happy, hence today's decision.
However, Johansen and his agent Kurt Overhardt are going to fight this tooth and nail. Overhardt put out a statement noting that the NHLPA is going to get involved and they plan on making sure that the veteran NHL star gets treated properly.
"Ryan Johansen has a severe hockey injury that requires extensive surgery that has been scheduled," the statement reads. "Since being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, Ryan has worked in good faith with the club, its medical staff, and authorized third party physicians. The Flyers' attempt to terminate Ryan's contract is disappointing. We have been in contact with the NHLPA and we will defend Ryan and protect his rights."
Johansen has played over 900 games in his career and has over 200 goals and close to 600 points. Overall, he has been a great veteran leader, and we're sure he would love to continue his career. Only time will tell whether or not that will be possible.
