Igor Shesterkin is arguably the best goaltender in the NHL and the New York Rangers would love for him to be with the team for a long time.

After Jeremy Swayman signed his deal, the next big goaltender to get paid will be Shesterkin. However, it would appear as though the goalie is playing hard to get with the franchise and he is doing it in shocking fashion. According to Kevin Weekes, Shesterkin was offered an eight-year deal worth $88 million which is an AAV of $11 million.
This would be the richest goaltender contract in the history of the NHL. However, Shesterkin has chosen to reject the offer. This is absolutely absurd given just how much money it is. However, it seems like the goalie believes he is worth more than what the team is currently offering.
Overall, fans are not impressed with this news. Many took to Twitter where they completely admonished Shesterkin for rejecting such a rich deal. You can tell that many are just flabbergasted that such a number would be swiped away, especially since it is $3 million more than what Swayman got.
Now, there will be quite the negotiation between both sides. It seems like Shesterkin is looking for $12 million which is a lot of money. Only time will tell if he gets what he desires.
