Overall, Barry Trotz has made his feeling about the move quite clear. He told Askarov that he is staying put and that they expect him to report to training camp alongside everyone else. However, as Tony Ferrari of The Hockey News states, there are at least five teams out there who could make a viable deal with the Preds.
Those teams would be the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Utah Hockey Club, San Jose Sharks, and even the Chicago Blackhawks. All five of these teams have one thing in common, and that is a question mark in net. Moreover, these teams have young prospects and pieces that could certainly lead to a nice return for Nashville.
For Barry Trotz, this will prove to be the biggest decision of his Predators GM tenure so far. However, it is not going to be an easy one at all. Askarov has a ton of potential, and if he becomes a superstar elsewhere, Trotz will want to have at least gotten something nice in return.
