The Minnesota Wild delivered unfortunate news before their matchup against the Ottawa Senators tonight, revealing that veteran forward Marcus Foligno has undergone season-ending surgery to address a core muscle issue.

Foligno is expected to fully recover in time for training camp in September, as stated by the team:

«Marcus Foligno underwent successful core muscle repair surgery today and will miss the remainder of this season. He is expected to be fully recovered before the start of training camp in September. #mnwild»

Foligno's absence is keenly felt by the Wild, especially as they contend for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. He last took to the ice on March 23 against the St. Louis Blues and has missed the team's last two games against the San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights.

This season, the 32-year-old Foligno contributed 10 goals and 22 points, boasting a +10 rating and tallying 59 penalty minutes across 55 games. While these numbers represent a slight dip from his performance last season, where he notched 21 points and 97 penalty minutes in 65 games, Foligno remained a physical presence with 179 hits this season, averaging 3.25 per game.

In a show of confidence, the Wild secured Foligno's future by signing him to a four-year contract extension worth $4 million annually, starting next season and running through the 2027-28 season.
