According to recent reports on Insider Trading, Bedard has been approached by Team Canada, along with Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks. While no official confirmation has been made, it's widely anticipated that Bedard will accept the invitation and join the squad in Czechia this May for the 2024 World Men's Hockey Championships.
It's also reported that Team Canada plans to extend an invitation to Sidney Crosby once the Pittsburgh Penguins are out of playoff contention.
Crosby's participation in the World Championships has been sporadic over the years. Despite frequent invitations, he has only competed twice: in 2006 and 2015, securing a gold medal in the latter.
The tournament has faced challenges in attracting top players due to its scheduling overlap with the NHL playoffs. Many players opt to prioritize their NHL commitments or take a break altogether. Consequently, interest and viewership for the tournament have dwindled.
However, Bedard's potential presence, especially following his recent close call with injury, could inject renewed excitement into the event. If Crosby were to join him on the ice, it could lead to a significant uptick in viewership for the 2024 World Championships.
