NHL veteran officially retires from hockey
Brad Malone is an NHL veteran with 217 games played and a total of 32 points and while his NHL success was minimal, he was a legend during his time in the American Hockey League.
This past week, Malone reflected on his career in professional hockey while also officially announcing his retirement. As he explains, he is still passionate about the sport, but his body has put numerous limitations on him. No matter what, it was a career well spent and fans who saw him play will forever remember his contributions.
"Reflecting on the past 20 years, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences I have had. While my mind and heart remain committed, my physical limitations prevent me from continuing as I wish. I am deeply appreciative of the support and guidance I have received from my family as well as so many individuals throughout this journey.
My hope is that I have positively impacted as many lives as those who have helped me along the way. Each step of this journey has been marked by cherished memories. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Bakersfield Condors and the Edmonton Oilers for providing my family and me with a place to call home and an organization to take pride in over these past seven years."
Back in 2007, Brad Malone was taken 105th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft. He never really found his footing with the franchise and eventually went to the Carolina Hurricanes before finding a more permanent home with the Edmonton Oilers organization.
With the Bakersfield Condors, Malone won a Calder Cup. Moreover, he was their captain when he retired. He even scored a goal in his final game with the team, for good measure.
