A few weeks ago, the Edmonton Oilers signed Mike Hoffman to a PTO despite his past as a locker room problem with the Ottawa Senators.

If you remember, his wife was accused of harassing the wife of Erik Karlsson. It was a very bizarre situation and eventually, Karlsson left the team. Hoffman also left the team back in 2018 but has not been the same since the incident. Sure, he had some good seasons with the Panthers, but his stints with the Blues, the Canadiens, and even the Sharks, have been less than stellar.
At 34 years old, Hoffman was looking to make some waves with the Oilers. Unfortunately, the Oilers are a team that already has quite a bit of depth and roster overflow. As a result, it was revealed today that Hoffman had been terminated from his PTO.
In 745 career games, Hoffman has 487 goals and 228 of those are goals. At his current age, however, it remains to be seen if there are teams out there who are going to want him. It is never easy to convince teams to go for older players. However, there is a chance that he still has some gas left in the tank. Having said that, his past certainly does raise some questions on whether or not he may be worth the trouble.
