Leon Draisaitl in a press conference

Amidst the 12-game winning streak of the Edmonton Oilers, star forward Leon Draisaitl recently offered a candid glimpse into his perceived intensity, engaging in an insightful conversation with team insider Mark Spector of Sportsnet.

Acknowledging his reputation for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, Draisaitl admitted to displaying intensity, particularly when faced with situations not aligning with his expectations. He emphasized a significant commitment to personal growth, investing considerable time in refining this facet of his personality. Reflecting on his journey, Draisaitl shared,
"I spend a lot of time working on that part of my life – as a leader and as a player."

Draisaitl, recognizing the impact of his body language on perceptions, revealed a heightened self-awareness and ongoing efforts to enhance it. In his own words,
"If people think that I'm not aware of my body language, then they're certainly wrong." He expressed satisfaction in his progress, stating, "I've gotten better. I care a lot, and I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist."
Central to his revelation was a crucial message – despite his direct delivery, his intense demeanor is never intended to be personal.
"I'm obviously very direct in the way I deliver certain things. But it's never personal," he emphasized, shedding light on his commitment to constructive communication. He addressed potential past misunderstandings, noting, "Maybe early in my career, that was also a little bit misunderstood."

In addressing the dynamic of always being mentioned second to teammate Connor McDavid, Draisaitl displayed remarkable equanimity, recognizing the natural order of attention.
"Naturally, being behind Connor, you will always be the second guy that gets talked about. That's just the way it is, and it's always going to be that way,"
he stated. Draisaitl drew parallels with other elite players, such as Matthews and MacKinnon, acknowledging both his exceptional nights and instances where his counterparts outshone him.
