Sean Monahan and the Columbus Blue Jackets are playing with heavy hearts this season following the passing of Johnny Gaudreau.

Last night, the Blue Jackets got to take on the Colorado Avalanche, a team that many thought were going to beat up on them. However, that was not the case whatsoever. Instead, the Blue Jackets came away with an impressive victory by a score of 6-4. It was one of those wins that inspires the group, and Monahan was sensational as he had one goal and two assists.

In the end, the Blue Jackets were helped out by poor goaltending from the Avs, but that doesn't matter. They got the win. After the game, Monahan was awarded a donkey cap for being the team's best player. Why a donkey? Well, according to Jeff Svoboda, it all has to do with Johnny Gaudreau.

"Sean Monahan gets the postgame donkey for the #CBJ. There's a 13 patch on the side because Johnny Gaudreau loved calling people a donkey. Fitting Sean gets it first."

We're sure that Gaudreau would be very proud to see his friend getting such an award. Considering the type of game that he had, it was very much deserved. Having said that, the Blue Jackets have a long road ahead. Tuesday night will be especially emotional as the team plays its home opener where they will pay tribute to their fallen star.
