It has been over two years since Gabriel Landeskog last participated in a hockey game. The forward hasn't played in a game since the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in his most recent game. This simply goes to highlight how hard it is to win a Stanley Cup and the physical toll it takes.
The Colorado Avalanche stated yesterday afternoon that Landeskog will be the sole topic of discussion at the team's press conference today. Upon hearing today's announcement, many assumed the worst about the captain and speculated that he would be retiring.
Landeskog declared today that he will rejoin the team for the upcoming campaign. A squad that has missed the playoffs the past two years would benefit greatly from the captain's return.
Although Landeskog declined to provide a timetable for his comeback, he intends to play again in the upcoming season. If he missed one more season at age 31, his career would probably come to an end.
This is a very fortunate moment for Landeskog and the Avalanche. The skipper will be allowed to finish his career the way he wants to, at the very least.
