Colorado Avalanche locker room could be in shambles amid contract talks with top player
Mikko Rantanen and the Colorado Avalanche are in a contract dispute right now and it could end very poorly for the Avs.
As it stands, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet believes it could even be affecting the Colorado Avalanche locker room. The team has been dreadful to start the year and this recent contract drama certainly does not help matters, whatsoever.
Having said that, Kypreos brought up how the Avs do not want to pay Rantanen like they pay MacKinnon. Furthermore, they would much rather have a healthy Gabriel Landeskog. Not to mention, with Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to secure a new deal, there is a world in which neither player signs with their current team. This could lead to Rantanen signing in Toronto.
"Star winger Mikko Rantanen and the Avalanche don't appear to be close to an extension. The feeling out there is the Avs are reluctant to get his average salary anywhere near Nathan MacKinnon's $12.6 million (U.S.) at this point in time. They are also hoping to have a clearer picture on captain Gabriel Landeskog's health and future before deciding how high they need to go to retain Rantanen." Rantanen would only end up with the Leafs in a worst-case scenario for both the Avs and the Leafs. However, it is a scenario that Leafs fans should warm themselves up to, just in case it goes down.
