Chicago Blackhawks Players Issue Final Statements On Corey Perry's Contract Termination
Following Corey Perry's contract termination by the Chicago Blackhawks for violating team code, three key playersSeth Jones, Nick Foligno, and Connor Murphyhave offered insights on the impact of Perry's departure.
Foligno noticed a distinct drop in the team's energy after Perry left. He emphasized the need for others to step up, citing Tyler Johnson as an example of a player taking on a more influential role. Foligno acknowledged Perry's significance and the lessons learned during his brief stint with the team.
«There was a little bit of a lull on that road trip when the dust settled, and you realized [Corey is] really not coming back,» Foligno said. «You could tell the energy he brings...was missing. You mourn that loss, and then you realize, Alright, it's not changing, so what are we going to do to get the energy back?' We realized other guys have to step up.»
"A younger guy is more willing to speak up and more comfortable in a home environment. You get to chat with them more about their lives. Little things come out of those dinners that help the bonding experience,"
Foligno added.
Tyler Johnson's increased vocal presence and Murphy's effective communication were highlighted as positive responses to the need for heightened energy. Even Jones, not known for being vocal, recognized the importance of driving energy during practices.
«I come from some experience of just being here, having some comfort with the staff and team, and knowing what we've been through and what doesn't work,» Murphy said. «Knowing [my way] around can help with anyone who's either uncomfortable or seems like they're trying to find themselves in a new organization.»
During Perry's two months with the Blackhawks, his infrequent but impactful words resonated within the locker room. Despite not being a constant speaker, his wisdom, gained through 18 seasons in the NHL and multiple playoff appearances, left a lasting impression.
Murphy, drawing from his experience and familiarity with the team dynamics, emphasized the value of guiding those who may feel uneasy in a new organization, particularly in light of the Corey Perry incident.
As the Blackhawks navigate the aftermath of Perry's departure, the players are actively adjusting roles and embracing the lessons learned during his brief but impactful tenure.
