In a bit of a surprise, the Chicago Blackhawks young talent, 19-year-old Kevin Korchinski, won't be hitting the ice for this year's IIHF World Junior Tournament. General Manager Kyle Davidson made the call, opting to keep Korchinski in Chicago.

Despite his solid 27-point performance in 82 games, where he's been clocking in an impressive 19 minutes and 32 seconds of ice time per game, Korchinski won't be making the trip to Gothenburg, Sweden, where the tournament kicks off in about a month.

This decision comes as a shock, especially since Korchinski played a crucial role in bringing home the gold in the previous competition alongside fellow standout Connor Bedard. Both players were instrumental in securing Canada's victory.

GM Davidson explains, "My inclination would be for Korchinski to stay" in Chicago rather than join the international tournament.

Fans and analysts are buzzing with speculation about Davidson's choice, questioning why such a dynamic player would be sidelined. Whether it's a strategic move to keep Korchinski fresh for the NHL season or a matter of team dynamics, opinions are divided.

The absence of Korchinski will definitely be felt in this year's IIHF World Junior Tournament, leaving everyone wondering about the impact on both the player and the team. It's a move that highlights just how valuable Korchinski has become.
