Three Teams Show High Interest In Calgary Flames Star Defenceman
The Calgary Flames and defenseman Noah Hanifin seem to be on the verge of parting ways before the March 8th trade deadline.
Hanifin, eyeing unrestricted free agency next summer, aims to join a contender, while the Flames face uncertainty about their future.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Hanifin's long-term contract aspirations have linked him to the Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils.
"Hanifin held off signing an eight-year extension with Calgary at the start of the season worth a reported $7.5M per season. The Flames reapproached him recently, but no deal yet.
Teams know what he wants long-term, which might not help trade negotiations from Calgary's perspective, but if the Flames can't convince him to stay, they'll look to move him," Pagnotta revealed.
At 27, Hanifin is having a solid season, on track to surpass his career-high of ten goals achieved in 2017-18 and 2021-22.
In 45 games this season, the Boston native has accumulated 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists), 22 penalty minutes, and holds a plus-ten rating.
The next few weeks will be intriguing as we watch to see if the Calgary Flames make a final attempt to secure Hanifin to an extension or proceed with the anticipated breakup.
