On Wednesday afternoon, the Utah HC and Ottawa Senators came together to complete a trade sending 6'3 225 lb forward Egor Sokolov to Utah.

The Ottawa Senators and Utah Hockey Club have struck a deal to trade a couple of young forwards. Egor Sokolov, a former second-round pick, will now play for Utah, while the Senators have acquired Jan Jenik. Sokolov, a 24-year-old from Russia, was selected by the Senators in the second round of the 2020 draft. He played for Ottawa in the 2022-2023 season and also played for the American Hockey League's Belleville Senators.

Jan Jenik, 23, was originally a third-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2018 and has played for both the Coyotes and the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. Jenik has history with Senators' general manager Steve Staios, having played for him throughout his junior career with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League.

"News Release: The #Sens have acquired forward Jan Jenik in a trade with @utahhockeyclub in exchange for forward Egor Sokolov:"

"🚨 TRADE 🚨

We have received Egor Sokolov from Ottawa!

#UtahHC"

Ottawa Senators General Manager Steve Staios commented on the trade this afternoon, saying that believe Jenik has offensive upside and is versitile, being able to play center or on the wing.

"Jan is a versatile and skilled forward," said Staios. "Capable of playing at both centre and on the wing, he's tenacious and demonstrates good offensive upside."

This deal gives both players a fresh start and hopefully an opportunity playing meaningful minutes.
