The Ottawa Senators and Utah Hockey Club have struck a deal to trade a couple of young forwards. Egor Sokolov, a former second-round pick, will now play for Utah, while the Senators have acquired Jan Jenik. Sokolov, a 24-year-old from Russia, was selected by the Senators in the second round of the 2020 draft. He played for Ottawa in the 2022-2023 season and also played for the American Hockey League's Belleville Senators.
Jan Jenik, 23, was originally a third-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2018 and has played for both the Coyotes and the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. Jenik has history with Senators' general manager Steve Staios, having played for him throughout his junior career with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League.
Ottawa Senators General Manager Steve Staios commented on the trade this afternoon, saying that believe Jenik has offensive upside and is versitile, being able to play center or on the wing.
