The Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars have officially finalized the Chris Tanev trade from the trade deadline.

The Calgary Flames have finalized another deal following the Dallas Stars' defeat by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final. Furthermore, it appears that the Oilers, the Flames' main adversary, have contributed to making sure Calgary receives as little as possible at least twice.
Chris Tanev was part of a three-team transaction that included the New Jersey Devils and the Calgary Flames in March of this year. The Flames received a conditional pick, a prospect, and a pick in return.
"Calgary acquired defenseman prospect Artem Grushnikov and the Stars' second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and conditional third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. If the Stars do not advance to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, the Flames will not receive the third-round pick."
The Oilers denied Calgary the conditional third round pick in 2024 after eliminating the Stars from the Stanley Cup Playoffs before to the Cup Final. And it's not the only one.
"With Dallas eliminated in the West Final, Calgary will not receive the bonus conditional 2026 third-round pick from the Chris Tanev trade.

#Flames end up 0/3 on trade conditions from last season. Vegas (Hanifin) and Vancouver (Lindholm) didn't meet conditional criteria, either."
A supporter brought out the fact that Edmonton defeated the Vancouver Canucks in this year's second round, once again preventing Calgary from moving forward. In exchange for a deal that includes a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Calgary sent Elias Lindholm to Vancouver. If Lindholm and the Canucks had advanced to the conference finalssomething Edmonton prevented them from doingit might have gone to a third round matchup.
It should be mentioned that the Florida Panthers, who were relocated to Florida by the Calgary Flames, were greatly assisted by Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett in their run to the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers.
