Toronto Marlies and eight other AHL teams have been named in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Associated Production Music.

APM has a large catalog of songs and they are very clear about copyright and licensing their music out to large companies and brands. According to their lawsuit, the teams in question were allegedly posting videos on social media, where you could hear songs from their catalog. They allege that the teams did this in excess of 100 times. Moreover, they claim that they contacted the league numerous times but got no response. Rick Westhead has the scoop.
"U.S. production music company APM Music has filed a lawsuit in California against the American Hockey League and a number of the league's teams for allegedly using music tracks from APM's catalogue on their social media channels without proper licenses.
APM said it court documents it has repeatedly contacted the AHL regarding the unlicensed uses of the recordings but the league has refused to obtain proper licenses or admit wrongdoing.
The music production company said it is entitled to recover up to $150K in damages for every work infringed. APM Music listed more than 100 examples of its music allegedly being used by the AHL and teams without permission."

Only time will tell how the AHL and its teams respond to this lawsuit. If one thing is for certain, this is not the type of lawsuit you want to see your team get wrapped up in. If there is one way to describe some record labels, it is "ruthless."
