Nikki Glaser Roasts Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers at the ESPY Awards
The ESPY Awards show took place last night, with comedian Nikki Glaser bringing her sharp wit to the stage as she introduced the nominees for «Best Male Athlete.» Among the nominees were golfer Scottie Scheffler, MLB star Shohei Ohtani, NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes (who took home the award), and Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
Glaser didn't hold back in her monologue, especially when it came to McDavid and the Oilers' recent playoff disappointment. The Oilers forced a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals after being down 3-0 but ultimately lost to the Florida Panthers.
«Nothing will stand in the way of these incredible athletes and their pursuit of greatness except the Florida Panthers,» said Glaser, opening the Oilers portion of her monologue.
Glaser then directed a pointed joke at McDavid, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy despite the series loss.
«Boy, Connor, that must have hurt; to lose a game of ice hockey to a place that doesn't even have ice,» she added.

The camera caught McDavid's Oilers teammate, Evander Kane, who appeared unimpressed by Glaser's jokes.
Glaser concluded her roast of McDavid and the Oilers with another zinger:
«For now, the only Stanley Cup Connor will get to hold is the one his wife asked him to grab out of the cabinet,»
she said.Although McDavid was not in attendance, he still earned the Best NHL Player award. Glaser's humor, while biting, highlighted the highs and lows of being in the public eye, especially for elite athletes like McDavid.
