Interestingly enough, they are going to be playing each other tonight in the season opener. The game is set to take place in Detroit and fans could not be any more excited about it. As it turns out, the Penguins and the Red Wings are playing at the same time as the Detroit Tigers, who are also in Detroit.
The Tigers game is a postseason one which means there are a ton of stakes involved. Unsurprisingly, the NHL is well aware of what this means for the potential ratings of the Red Wings and Penguins match. Consequently, they decided to delay the game.
Don't worry, it is not a huge delay or anything dramatic like that. Instead, the game will simply take place an hour later at 8 PM. The league just wants to cover its bases in case anything involving the Tigers match extends past where it should. Either way, it is a smart move from the league that many will appreciate.
There could be other delays around the league, but that mostly involves Hurricane Milton. For now, the NHL has not announced any such cancelations. Hopefully, everyone is able to stay safe out there. It is being described as a Category 6 Hurricane, which breaks the scale completely.
