Former first-round pick Braden Schneider has secured a new contract with the New York Rangers after becoming a restricted free agent on July 1st. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Schneider has agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.4 million, averaging $2.2 million per year.
Schneider, 22, was selected 19th overall by the Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft. He has quickly become a full-time player for the team, missing only one game over the last two seasons. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native has shown significant improvement in his game, setting a new career-high in points this past season.
In 82 regular-season games, Schneider recorded 19 points (five goals, 14 assists), 16 penalty minutes, and a minus-one rating. He also contributed two assists in 16 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The new contract reflects Schneider's growing role and potential within the Rangers organization as he continues to develop into a key defenseman for the team.
