Erik Karlsson Reveals His Unorthodox Pre-Game Meal

Erik Karlsson, the star defenceman for the Pittsburgh Penguins, recently shared a glimpse into his unique pre-game meal routine that he's maintained throughout his 15-year NHL career. Known for being creatures of habit, NHL players often stick to their game-day rituals, which usually involve meals rich in protein and carbohydrates. However, Karlsson's choice of pre-game fuel stands out as notably unconventional.
In a video that has gained attention online, Karlsson revealed his distinctive meal choice, which consists of pasta topped with alfredo sauce, meat sauce, raw onion, hot sauce, and ketchup. It's a combination that has raised eyebrows, yet it's a routine that Karlsson has followed since he entered the league in 2009.
"Pasta, Alfredo, Meat Sauce, Raw Onion, Hot Sauce, and Ketchup. A little salt and pepper." Karlsson said.

He continued to describe how his peculiar meal choice often garners mixed reactions:
"Yeah, I think first time anyone sees it, it's uh...I get a comment on it. Usually not the most positive. And then we muck it. I like it. It's worked for me for, ah, 15 years now. I'm sticking with it as long as I can."

Karlsson's unique dietary choice may not be widely appealing, but it seems to have served him well throughout his impressive NHL career. As one of the league's elite defensemen, his performance on the ice has been nothing short of exceptional. With 802 points (189 goals, 628 assists) in 1,002 games and three Norris Trophies to his name, Karlsson's unorthodox meal is a testament to the fact that sometimes the path to success involves personal quirks and routines that others might find unusual.
As Karlsson continues to thrive with the Penguins, his commitment to his pre-game ritual remains unwavering, proving that when it comes to preparation and performance, the key lies in what works best for the individual player.
