Last night's QMJHL game in Cape Breton, featuring the Eagles and the Saint John Sea Dogs, took a turn for the alarming when Sea Dogs' head coach Travis Crickard collapsed behind the bench during the third period.

The incident prompted an immediate medical response, with players quickly making space for the emergency staff. The focus shifted from the game, where the Eagles led 6-0, to Crickard's condition as he received around 15 minutes of medical attention on the spot.

Crickard was then taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Remarkably, he was conscious and able to communicate during transport, and upon arrival, his vital signs were confirmed to be stable.

The team later provided an uplifting update:

"Saint John Sea Dogs head coach Travis Crickard has been released from Cape Breton Regional Hospital this morning after collapsing on the bench during last night's game against the Cape Breton Eagles. The game was called final with 19:06 remaining in the 3rd period."

This news brought a sigh of relief to everyone concerned for Crickard, who is in his second year at the helm for the Sea Dogs and was a key part of their Memorial Cup-winning coaching staff in the 2021-22 season. Wishing Coach Crickard a rapid and complete recovery.
