Brandon Tanev reacts to Seattle Kraken hiring first female NHL Coach
The Seattle Kraken have made history this off-season by hiring Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach, marking the first time a woman will work behind an NHL bench full-time. Campbell, who was previously an assistant coach for the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, is breaking new ground in the NHL.
Kraken forward
Brandon Tanev, who attended
Zach Hyman's Golf Celebrity Classic, shared his enthusiasm for Campbell's new role.
"Yeah, that's such an amazing moment for her. She's been in Coachella for the last two years with Dan (Bylsma) and been part of his staff. Obviously, she deserves to be, where she is, and that's amazing growth for the game. We are all super excited to have her behind our bench and listen and learn from her. Have her knowledge that she brings to the game to us."
Campbell's hiring represents a significant step forward for gender diversity in professional hockey. Her work with the Firebirds, where she also made history as the first woman behind an AHL bench, has paved the way for this groundbreaking achievement.
The 32-year-old Tanev, who completed his third season with the Kraken last year, is looking forward to the contributions Campbell will bring to the team. Tanev scored 7 goals and 16 points in 66 games last season.
The Kraken, who missed the playoffs for the second time in their three-season history, are hoping that Campbell's expertise and fresh perspective will help guide them back into the playoffs in the competitive Pacific Division. Campbell's hiring is not just a milestone for the Kraken but also a landmark moment for the entire hockey community.
