Scam Targeting All Canadians Takes Aim At Sidney Crosby
Recently, a concerning online scam has been targeting Canadians, using fabricated news headlines about popular figures like former celebrity chef Mary Berg, singer Michael Buble, and comedian Rick Mercer. Now, it has set its sights on hockey icon Sidney Crosby.
The scam utilizes graphics from well-known news outlets, claiming Crosby must face justice for unspecified accusations. It's entirely bogus, with the links serving as scams. Below are images illustrating the types of scams circulating involving Crosby.
Bell Media, as reported by Vice, has taken action to combat this scam, particularly concerning Mary Berg.
It's disconcerting that these scams are prevalent on X (formerly Twitter). Celebrities targeted, including Crosby, are reportedly filing complaints to address and shut down this scam. Currently, the best defense is raising awareness to avoid falling victim to these deceptive posts.
