"Corey Perry was a model citizen in the NHL for like, 18 years. He made a mistake in Columbus one night, he drank too much and he made a pass at a staff member who worked at NBC. And then Chicago, in the environment that they live in now, if there's any hint of anything like that, they just get rid of everything," Scott explained.
As an NBC Sports employee, Scott addressed concerns about Perry potentially bringing character issues to the Oilers' locker room. He vouched for Perry, describing him as a 'model citizen' and respected NHL veteran. Despite Perry's minor mistake, Scott believes the Blackhawks' decision to terminate his contract was harsh, but he acknowledges the organization needed to be cautious.
If Scott's report is accurate and there are no other undisclosed reasons for Perry's departure, the termination could be seen as unjust. Perry's supposed minor incident, not involving a team employee, might not have warranted such a severe decision.
The turn of events, however, seems to be a positive twist for Perry, who now appears to be an excellent fit with the Oilers. Bringing veteran presence, playoff experience, depth scoring, and his classic agitator role to the bottom six forwards, Perry could prove to be a valuable addition. With a thirteen-game win streak and the inclusion of a future hall of famer like Corey Perry, the Oilers are basking in their unstoppable momentum.
