NHL arbitrator officially announces Ilya Samsonov's next contract amount
The Toronto Maple Leafs made the dangerous decision to allow their negotiations with Ilya Samsonov be presented in front of an independent arbitrator. After not being able to workout a new contract the parties presented their case and left the rest at the mercy of the league.
This leaves both Samsonov and the Leafs unable to negotiate further and bound by the ruling. Today the league made the official ruling announcing that Samsonov has officially been awarded his amount.
Samsonov awarded $3.55 million in arbitration.
Samsonov, 26, appeared in 42 games last season for Toronto. He listed a record of 27-10-5 while also posting 4 shutouts. He registered a GAA of 2.33 and a .919 S%.
The Maple Leafs will no be forced to make some decisions on their current roster to accomodate Samsonov's salary as the team is already spending deep in long-term injury reserve savings.
