1000-game NHL veteran & Stanley Cup winner retires from hockey

Kyle Okposo is an NHL player who always showcased class, leadership, and phenomenal play out on the ice.

He began his career with the New York Islanders and eventually went to the Buffalo Sabres where he was named team captain. Last season, he branched out and went to the Florida Panthers, where he won a Stanley Cup after 17 years in the league.

At 36 years old, Okposo understands that his body is winding down and that his playing days will never be as fruitful as they used to be. Consequently, he has decided to retire from the game of hockey. He is going out on top, and he wrote a letter to his fans which can be read below.

Okposo played 1050 games in the NHL and finished his career with 242 goals, 372 assists, and 614 points. His highest totals came back in 2013-14 with the Islanders when he had 27 goals and 69 total points in 71 games. He was a beacon of consistency and was always the perfect leader for his teammates. If one thing is for certain, it is that fans will miss him dearly.
