Patrik Laine of the Montreal Canadiens is going to be out for two to three months due to a sprained knee he sustained in the preseason.

This injury came after a hit from Cedric Pare of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was a hit that has proven to be incredibly controversial. In fact, there are quite a few people out there who believe that Pare should have faced consequences. However, this past week, Laine came out and completely absolved Pare. In fact, he took the blame for his own injury.
When Laine first went down, most fans and analysts figured he would be out for the entire season. Most felt like he had torn his ACL or something similar to that. However, he was lucky to come away with just a sprained knee for his troubles.
In a new report, it is pointed out that a small piece of equipment may have saved Laine's season and even his career. He was wearing a knee brace on his left knee when he got hit. This ultimately softened the range of motion of his knee and kept it from tearing the ACL or MCL.
This is a stroke of good luck that fans will be thankful for. ACL injuries can be absolutely brutal and usually take a whole calendar year to recover from. Having said that, we wish Laine the best during his recovery.
