The Toronto Maple Leafs have been missing forward Mitch Marner since their March 7 clash against the Boston Bruins, where he suffered a high ankle sprain.

Since then, he's been sidelined, sparking concerns among fans about his recovery and potential return before the playoffs kick off next month. However, recent updates shed a more optimistic light on the situation.

According to Darren Dreger, the Leafs are taking a cautious approach with Marner's injury. While there's some conflicting information, Dreger suggests that if it were playoff time, Marner would likely be back on the ice.

"I'm getting somewhat conflicting information. But I do think that the Maple Leafs are wise in this approach," Dreger said. "I feel like if there were a playoff spot on the line, of course, he'd be playing Toronto Maple Leafs medical [staff] is running the show here, and Marner will be back when he's ready."

Marner has been a key contributor for Toronto this season, tallying 25 goals and 51 assists in 62 games played. With the playoff race heating up, the Leafs are eager to have him back to secure the best possible postseason position. On a positive note, the team has managed a respectable 4-2-1 record during Marner's absence.

Despite concerns, Dreger's insight offers reassurance to Leafs fans, suggesting that Marner's absence is a precautionary measure and that he'll likely return when fully fit.
