NHL insider provides full details on the surgery underwent by Andrei Vasilevskiy
Yesterday, Kevin Weekes of ESPN broke the surprising news that Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy had undergone surgery on his injured back. It had been noted that Vasilevskiy was battling injury, but no one believed it to be this bad. Now the Lightning will be without their starting goalie for a significant amount of time.
Vasilevskiy is expected to miss a minimum of 8-10 weeks as a result of the surgery. NHL Insider revealed the nature of Vasilevskiy's surgery and that it was caused by a herniated disc in the goaltender's back.
Andrei Vasilevskiy had a microdiscectomy on a lumbar back herniation this morning, per #TBLightning. He's expected to miss the first two months of the regular season.
