During the 1st period of Saturday night's game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild, 19-year-old Blackhawks' prospect Samuel Savoie suffered a significant injury. While tracking down a puck Savoie falls awkwardly and crashes into the boards. Savoie's screams were captured on in-game microphones and could be heard throughout the arena. It was obvious that Savoie was in rough shape.
Trainers from both teams hurried to Savoie's side before he was loaded onto a stretcher and rushed to a nearby hospital.
Today the Blackhawks gave the following update:
Team physician Dr. Michael Terry released the following medical update:
Samuel Savoie underwent successful surgery on his right femur on Sunday in Minnesota, and we expect him to make a full recovery.
The expected recovery time for an injury like this is usually 6-8 months. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Savoie as he begins the tough journey back to the NHL.
