Ryan Reaves flattens Gaudreau in open ice, drops the mitts with Marcus Foligno
When Ryan Reaves dropped the gloves with Arber Xhekaj on Wednesday, the scrap left a lot to be desired, as Xhekaj pushed Reavo over the back of the Canadiens net, ending the fight prematurely. However, his fight against Marcus Foligno tonight was much more entertaining.
The fight occurred at the midway point of the 1st period after Reaves lined up Frederick Gaudreau in the Leafs' defensive zone and absolutely trucked him in open ice, leaving him shaken up on the play. Marcus Foligno didn't like the hit and let Reaves know it, throwing off his gloves and immediately pursuing his former teammate.
The hit on Gaudreau was a clean one, body to body, and he did remain in the game and was not injured, thankfully. Reaves was not assessed a penalty for the hit and both he and Foligno were assessed the usual 5-minute fighting majors.
This marks 2 fights for Reaves in as many games in a Leafs sweater. He's not going to fight 82 times this season, but at the rate he's going, it looks like we're going to see at least 1 fight per week from the 36-year-old.
