The Winnipeg Jets have locked in forward Nino Niederreiter with a fresh three-year contract extension, sporting a $4 million annual average value (AAV) set to kick in next season. Niederreiter, who arrived in Winnipeg via a trade with the Nashville Predators last season, is in the midst of his first full season with the Jets.

In 23 games this season, Niederreiter has notched up six goals, 14 points, and a +9. These numbers echo his performance from the previous season with the Jets, where in 22 games, he secured six goals and 13 points. He also contributed four points in five playoff games.

The 31-year-old Niederreiter, a veteran of 13 NHL seasons, marks Winnipeg as his fifth franchise. Drafted fifth overall by the New York Islanders in 2010, he debuted in the NHL at the close of the 2010-11 season. Despite a challenging rookie year with the Islanders, where he recorded just one goal and a -29 through 55 games, Niederreiter rebounded, amassing 833 career NHL games and 423 career points. He currently stands sixth in the 2010 Draft class for career games.

With an average ice time of just over 15 minutes per game this season, Niederreiter has become a reliable contributor to Winnipeg's middle-six. In a team boasting nine players with 10 or more points this season, the Jets hold a solid third position in the Central Division with a 13-8-2 record and the 11th spot in goal differential, carrying a +10.
