The Washington Capitals Make Surprising Move Placing Evgeny Kuznetsov On Waivers
Today, the hockey world was taken by surprise when the Washington Capitals made a bold move with one of their key players.
Following confirmation from the NHLPA that Evgeny Kuznetsov was cleared to return to practice after participating in the Player Assistance Program, the Capitals have made a decisive change to their roster.
«Placed on NHL waivers today: Evgeny Kuznetsov (WSH).»
The 33-year-old forward, who has struggled to find his form this season with just 6 goals and 17 points over 43 games, seems to be parting ways with the Capitals. After a couple of challenging seasons, the team appears ready to transition towards a younger lineup.
Given Kuznetsov's substantial $7.8 million cap hit for the next two years, it's unlikely he'll be picked up off waivers. This move signals a clear shift in the Capitals' strategy and potentially marks the end of Kuznetsov's tenure with the team.
