Alexander Ovechkin Issues Shocking Statement On His NHL Career
Hockey fans have been treated to nearly two decades of watching two exceptional talents in Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
While the rivalry between Ovechkin and Crosby might be slowly fading, the impact of their competition over the years has undeniably elevated the sport.
In a recent interview, Alexander Ovechkin expressed the significance of his rivalry and career with Sidney Crosby, stating that they saved the National Hockey League.
"We saved the league. Now they come in, and I guess we're old news," Ovechkin shared with The Athletic's Rob Rossi. "But we saved it. It's up to those guys to come in and prove me wrong that we're not the best. We saved the NHL."
The remarkable success of both Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby is set to land them in the Hockey Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Ovechkin continues to chase Wayne Gretzky's goals record, while Crosby, with 22 points in Pittsburgh's first 18 games this season, shows no signs of slowing down.
Crosby and Ovechkin clashed once this season and won't face each other again until January 2nd, 2024, when they meet in Pittsburgh.
