However, in recent years, Liljegren's role with the Leafs has been diminished. Now that Craig Berube is the head coach, that continues to be the case. He didn't play in the season opener and there has been a whole lot of talk about whether or not Liljegren has a role with this franchise moving forward.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Liljegren does indeed want a trade. He has not put in a formal request but everybody in the Leafs organization seems to be aware of what the situation is right now.
As for Elliotte Friedman, he gave a pretty good perspective on all of this. Simply put, the Leafs shouldn't have trouble getting a trade done. Liljegren is the type of player who is always going to elicit some kind of interesting around the league. Only time will tell if the Leafs like the return that interest brings.
