The Toronto Maple Leafs have officially fired Sheldon Keefe
For a while now, many Toronto Maple Leafs fans anticipated changes if the team didn't advance past the first playoff round under head coach Sheldon Keefe.
That moment has arrived, and unsurprisingly, Keefe is the first casualty in what promises to be a busy offseason, a move that felt inevitable.
Speculation began swirling as soon as the Maple Leafs bowed out to the Boston Bruins in Game 7. The way the organization handled media appearances for players and staff only fueled the rumours.
Now, according to reports from Elliotte Friedman and David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs have parted ways with Keefe.
«Toronto is making a coaching change. Sheldon Keefe is out.»
«The #LeafsForever have relieved Sheldon Keefe of his coaching duties.»
While Keefe excelled in the regular season, his struggles in the playoffs, particularly with making timely adjustments, sealed his fate.
Many fans question Keefe's return for the 2023-24 season, let alone his recent contract extension, making him another costly coaching misstep for the Leafs.
