Nikita Grebyonkin was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2022 and signed his entry-level deal back in April. This year, he will be a fixture at training camp and will be attempting to find a spot on the roster.

Unfortunately, Grebyonkin has been through it this past year while playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL. In a new interview, Grebyonkin reveals that the team handled his injury by pumping him full of painkillers.
I wasn't the only one who played in the playoffs while taking painkillers and risking my health. Many of our guys had serious injuries. Everyone was determined to win. Although the pills helped to numb the pain, it wasn't a complete relief. My shoulder was aching, but the main injury was in my lower body."
Had it not been for the painkillers, Grebyonkin would have been out of the lineup and likely in the bad graces of the team. Now, however, the 21-year-old is looking to prioritize his health to the best of his ability.
"I'm currently in the recovery process. In Toronto, the coaches and medical staff are watching me closely. They give me constant guidance on training, provide nutrition advice, and tell me what to avoid. All I can focus on right now is practicing and getting back in shape. The main thing is that everything is fine with my health."
