It's been an epic season for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and fan base as they have witnessed one of the best players in their history surpass Alexander Ovechkin's record goals of 66 since the 2007-08 season.

The goal came at 12:38 of the third period, When the Maple Leafs were playing the New Jersey Devils. As the Leafs broke into the Devils zone, Leafs forward Max Domi saucered a beautiful pass to Matthews which led to his Clapper that sent it past Devils goaltender Jake Allen.

After the game, Matthews was told about the record in which he expressed how he felt about accomplishing this goal and where he stands alongside Ovechkin.

"It's cool," Matthews said. "He's obviously who he is and what he's done for the game, and obviously what he's accomplished. So it's a big honor just to be in the same sentence."

Matthews went on to explain how he is working through the idea that he may score 70 goals this year and how he's handling the notion.

"I find when you really, I don't know, maybe overthink it and kind of almost want it too much, it almost doesn't go your way," Matthews said. "So I just try to approach every game the same. And obviously, we're winding down here the last couple of games, and just want to make sure myself individually and as a team, we're doing the right things night in, night out on both sides of the puck that is gonna translate here in the postseason.

"So that's really the mindset going in night in, night out."

The Leafs have three games remaining with goal #70 in mind, Matthews will try to pass legendary Penguins superstar Mario Lemieux who holds the record for 69 goals in one season since 1995- 96.
