The Pittsburgh Penguins just made a big announcement as GM Kyle Dubas has decided to let go of Todd Reirden, the team's associate coach. Reirden was responsible for the Penguins' struggling powerplay this season, and his dismissal might signal larger changes within the organization.

With the recent changes in ownership, Dubas holds significant authority as both the acting General Manager and President of Hockey Operations. However, despite Dubas's power, head coach Mike Sullivan's influence is still respected. Rumors of tension between Dubas and Sullivan have been circulating, suggesting a potential power struggle.

On DFO Live, Frank Seravalli says there are lot of whispers about will Jon Cooper be staying in TB. He also said there's a bit of a power struggle with Dubas & Sullivan in PIT. Dubas wants to make changes to the coaching staff but Sullivan has been resistant to that.

Public tension between the GM and head coach often leads to bigger problems, and Sullivan's future with the Penguins could be uncertain. Coaches typically have a say in their coaching staff, so Sullivan may not take kindly to Reirden's dismissal.

Nevertheless, someone had to be held accountable for the Penguins' disappointing season, and Reirden's ineffective powerplay coaching made him an easy target. A viral video earlier this year showed Reirden struggling to devise a play, drawing criticism from fans.

Reirden's firing could be just the beginning of significant changes for the Penguins. Despite their commitment to their veteran core, including Sidney Crosby, the team needs improvement across the board to avoid missing the playoffs in the future.
