NHL Player Safety Takes Suspension Away After Player Jumped Tkachuk
He's facing consequences, though the severity could have been more significant, perhaps even warranted.
Last night, Zack MacEwan from the Ottawa Senators incurred a five-minute match penalty for attacking Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers, who delivered a clean hit on Travis Hamonic.
Expectations were high for a one or two-game suspension, but Player Safety had different intentions.
"Ottawa's Zack MacEwen has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct during last night's game against Florida." The contest between the Sens and Panthers escalated, witnessing numerous altercations on the ice. At one point, the referee declared that every player present during the incident had received a 10-minute misconduct.
