Flyers Interested in Sens Unsigned RFA Pinto
Ottawa Senators still have some outstanding business to handle with training camp set to open this week. RFA forward Shane Pinto is still without a new contract and reports have confirmed that things aren't close.
The Fourth Period's Anthony Di Marco shared that the Philadelphia Flyers made an offer on Pinto. The offer was Mathieu Joseph, who makes $2.95M for the next three years, to Philadelphia alongside Pinto as a cap dump. No return from Philadelphia is mentioned, although Di Marco notes that it would've been a roster player.
Ottawa have less than $800,000 in available space to make a deal work. The New York native had a strong rookie season, playing all 82 games , scoring 20 goals and 35 points.
The Flyers will have roughly $7.1M cap space to work with when factoring in that Ryan Ellis and his $6.25M cap hit will be placed on LTIR.
Ottawa will be reluctant to give up on Pinto but with the tight cap situation that they find themselves in, they might not have a choice. Insider Elliotte Friedman believes after Pinto's strong rookie showing he has earned himself a payday of around $2.5M per year.
