Alexis Lafreniere was the first-overall pick for the New York Rangers back in 2020 and despite a slow start to his career, he has been picking up the pace as of late.

If Lafreniere can become a bonafide superstar, then this Rangers team is going to be extremely dangerous. To start the year, Lafreniere, has four goals and three assists in seven games. He is averaging about one point per game which is pretty good when you consider how slow of a start he had a few years ago. Having said that, it is contract negotiation time for Lafreniere and it seems like he has a new deal.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Lafrieniere has agreed to terms on a new deal that is worth $7.6 million AAV and it will be for seven years. This is just one year less than the maximum. However, perhaps the Rangers are looking to even out when the contract will end as Lafrieniere will turn 30 in seven seasons from now.

"Rangers closing in on Lafreniere extension. Told by industry sources it will be seven year deal coming in at under $7.6M per."

We can only imagine what kind of player Lafreniere will be by then. He is by no means in his prime. He still has the potential to finish out a season with over 100 points. It is not going to be easy, but there is no denying that Rangers fans are excited about what the future holds for this franchise.
