The Montreal Canadiens have been turning some heads by showcasing goaltender Cayden Primeau in a recent game against the New Jersey Devils, sparking speculation about possible moves on the horizon.

With the Habs currently carrying three NHL-caliber goalies, the situation has piqued interest among hockey analysts.

Boston Hockey Now's Jimmy Murphy has voiced his opinion that the Canadiens might make significant moves leading up to American Thanksgiving on Nov. 23.

He also suggests that other teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets may be considering similar deals. Montreal's general manager, Kent Hughes, could be eyeing early-season trades to acquire future assets for the rebuilding team.

While there's no doubt about Hughes' creativity in the trade market, it's been reported that the Canadiens have been entertaining offers for Primeau.

With three goalies on the roster, they want to avoid the risk of losing Primeau on waivers if they decide to send him down to the Laval Rocket. Potential suitors for the young netminder might include the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers.

On another note, there's speculation that forward Joel Armia could be trade bait in the coming weeks, but his $3.4 million annual value might be a roadblock for some cap-strapped teams.

It remains to be seen if Hughes is willing to retain salary to facilitate a move. As the first month of the 2023-24 season unfolds, these trade discussions will be worth keeping an eye on.
